- El Salvador is the smallest country in mainland Central America and the only one without a Caribbean coast.
- It is called the “Land of Volcanoes”; there are around 20 volcanoes, several of them active.
- Joya de Cerén is a Maya farming village buried by ash around 600 AD and preserved in detail, sometimes called the “Pompeii of the Americas”.
- El Salvador adopted the US dollar in 2001 and later became the first country to make bitcoin legal tender.

Pupusa Thick maize flatbread stuffed before griddling with cheese, beans or chicharrón, served with curtido.
Made the national dish by law in 2005, with a national pupusa day in November.
